Marc Lucien grew up in Bronx, New York in the 1960's. He put off college and traveled, spending a great deal of time painting and sketching in the Carribbean and the Florida Keys. He returned to New York and began working at a frame shop in Manhattan. Looking at art everyday inspired him to experiment further with his painting. Through friends he had met at the frame shop he started selling his work to local galleries. He was then able to devote all his time to his art and begin traveling again.
