About the Artist
John Zaccheo is known for his vibrant paintings of Mediterranean seaports, and his alluring flower gardens and country settings. He is a master at using a brush and a palette knife; each stroke creating color and form that explodes on canvas and captivates the viewer.
Born in Kingston, New York, John earned a degree at Dutchess College and Syracuse University, and a gold medal for outstanding achievements in fine arts. After earning his degrees, John enlisted in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he completed two world tours and a tour of duty in Vietnam. After his Honorable Discharge, John continued his studies at the Art Student League in New York, before going to Europe and Japan to study painting and sculpture under great artists and sculptors like Arthur Lidov, John Pike, Robert Benny, David Lax, Joseph Hirsch, Leslie Ross and Lewis Krevolin.
Early in his career, John Zaccheo was the art director of Seidman & Lane Inc., then American Management Association (New York City). He then became head creative director of The Music Agency, Inc. and Warner Brothers Music and Publications; designing record covers for many top musicians. (The Partridge Family, Seals & Crofts, The Fifth Dimention, Neil Young, Gordan Lightfoot, Elton John to name a few). He did numerous freelance projects for several leading New York City advertising agencies and his illustrative work has been published in leading magazines, including Time and on the Cover of Life. Zaccheo eventually opened his own advertising agencies in NYC and then upstate New York, which he later sold and moved to South Florida to pursue a career in fine art.
John quickly became a prolific and popular South Florida artist selling paintings in many area galleries. He then signed a contract with Wentworth Gallery, the largest national gallery chain, creating over six hundred and fifty paintings and thousands of signed limited edition serigraphs and hundreds of embellished serigraphs on canvas for galleries all over the country. John’s popularity has led to over fifty one-man shows and many published prints. His paintings reside in museums and national and international corporate collections, including the collections of President Jimmy Carter, President Kennedy and President Sedat of Egypt and Prime Minister Began of Israel.
John now resides in Vermont, surrounded by picturesque towns and mountain views that provide him with an abundance of inspiration, and the space to create his paintings and his custom paints in his studio/laboratory.
