About the Artist

Lifelong New Yorker Richard James is a former advertising Creative Director turned Fine Art Photographer. Explaining how he first got into photography James says: “When I was a kid, I wanted to be an actor, but I was too chicken, so I played with photography”. Discovering his true calling on the other side of the lens, James started his adventures in photography with a camera & roll of film purchased for him by his uncle. For 20 years James worked for various media linked companies, but in 2004 his true passion called and he began to work as a professional photographer. James has a passion for his work and for everything he photographs, whether it be the architecture of his beloved New York City, or his artful classic car details. Describing his artistic motivation James says: “I love making images for people. I want to photograph things that people have a passion for. My classic car photographs--that’s me! Truthfully, some modern art doesn’t make sense to me. Art needs to make sense.” In addition to his photography, Richard James is a licensed New York City Tour Guide, living with his wife Annie on New York’s Upper West Side in a 110 year old New York brownstone row-house.
