About the Artist

Defined in simple, yet bold compositions, and with a keen eye for subtle color relationships, Telander’s work constructs homages to his ephemeral subjects, giving them singular environments within which their beauty is revealed. At first familiar and seemingly ordinary, his work investigates the spirit within the everyday subject. With a fresh eye, he infuses his botanical treasures with a rigor that suggests complex relationships far beyond their humble "objectness." In addition, Telander works with a loose style to create a more contemporary variation of the traditional still life. The hallmark of Telander’s work is the omnipresence of an inner life that each painting presents, simultaneously personal and universal. After both undergraduate and graduate study of botanical art, illustration and natural history at The University of California, Santa Cruz, the artist continued study at The Art Students League in Denver, Colorado, Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado and the Loveland Academy of Art, Loveland, Colorado. Telander’s work has been collected and published nationally and internationally. His clients include book and magazine publishers, environmental and educational corporations and museums. Telander’s work has been exhibited widely and he maintains a committed base of fine art collectors.
