About the Artist

Whether working in oils or acrylics, on canvas or paper, James Hussey captures the beauty of sumptuous floral arrangements and the simplicity of quiet flower studies. His paintings are notable for the attention to the detail of their subject, as well as the frequent density and texture of their backgrounds. Born in Wolverhampton, England, Hussey studied at the Stourbridge and Chelsea Schools of Art. He selected Chelsea because of the caliber of tutors teaching there at the time. The head of the school was Henry Moore and tutors included Patrick Caulfield, Allen Jones, John Hoyland and for a time, visiting tutor David Hockney. James met his future wife, Annabel Hewitt, in 1972. They traveled extensively in Europe and lived in Spain for a period. Returning to London in 1974, Hussey had several one-man shows, and has since exhibited at several galleries including Chalk Farm Gallery, King Street Gallery and Harrods. He has participated in numerous art fairs and expos including Basel, Chicago, Cologne, FIAC (Paris), Stuttgart, New York and London International Contemporary. Hussey's work is also included in a host of international private and corporate collections including A.T.&T (UK), Blockbuster, J.P. Morgan, Marks & Spencer, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, and Sumitomo Finegoods.
