This week we added 4 new images to Belgian artist Philippe Debongnie’s “Family Album” series. In this series, Debongnie combines animal faces with human forms in settings reminiscent of vintage photographs, creating whimsical portraits incorporating bold contemporary designs. He gives each member of the “family” a name, which is the title of each work.
(Images above are from the artist's studio.)
The results are fun and whimsical, almost tricking the viewer at first glance into thinking they are looking at someone’s actual family album (that is until they see that Aunt Marthe actually has the head of a moose!). This series is a delightful spin on portraiture, a subject we will expand upon next week with the launch of the first McGaw Graphics Portraiture Collection.
